Marina Pardo

Marina Pardo graduated in Oviedo obtaining Honours with the Graduation Prize, and the Extraordinary “Muñiz Toca” Award. In 1994 she was invited by Alfredo Kraus to further her studiesat the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía de Madrid, and was awarded by Elena Obratzsovathat same year the First Prize at the II Festival Lírico de Callosa d’en Sarriá. She also holds the First female Prize at the VI Francisco Alonso International Competition, and the Silver Medal for the Artistic Merit by the Juventudes Musicales de Santander.

She has performed in numerous recitals with her usual pianist, Kennedy Moretti, highlighting the Winterreise by Schubert at the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid. She has performed with the guitarist José María Gallardo, as well as with her ensemble La Maestranza, at Dublin’s Guitar Festival, atthe UNESCO’s headquarters in Beirut, and at Warsaw’s Philharmonic Theatre.

She has worked under the baton of prestigious conductors internationally recognized such as Helmut Rilling, Jesse Levine, or Pinchas Steinberg, amongst many others, as well as with the most renowned Spanish conductors and orchestras. An example of international orchestras she has worked with are the New York Philharmonic, the Israel Philharmonic, or the Dresdner Philharmonie, in halls such as the Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Avery Fisher Hall in New York, orthe Mare Palatui in Bucharest.

Her operatic repertoire covers great part of the classical and romantic operas: Le nozze di Figaro, Die Walküre, Carmen, Traviata, Die Zauberflöte, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Elektra, La verbena de la paloma, Eugen Onegin, La Sonnambula, La vida breve, etc.

Marina Pardo has also dedicated part of her repertoire to baroque and antique music. She has interpreted Dido & Aeneas by Purcell, L’Incoronazione di Poppea by Monteverdi, Giulio Cesare by Händel etc. She also was a member of the ensemble Al Ayre Español with which she performed inthe most presitious European Festivals from the genre (Herne, Utrecht, Libramont, Schleswig-Holstein, Societé Philarmonique de Bruxelles, etc.) performing the baroque zarzuelas Acis y Galatea and Júpiter y Semele by Literes, recording both of them for Harmonia Mundi, and obtaining the Spanish National Music Prize in 2005, as well as many other prizes and discography recognitions.

Very interested in contemporary music has premiered numerous works by spanish composers. In 2012 she premiered in Spain Ainadamar from Golijov as Federico García Lorca, opera that later repeated in the Opera Philadelphia with great success and the Cesis Festival in Latvia (where the perform was recognized with the Latvian Great Music Award as the best production of 2017.

Her recording The Caterpillar, Albéniz songs, recorded for Deutsche Grammophon with pianist Rosa Torres Pardo was greatly acclaimed by the specialized critics.
